Well, when I start the car, a shreiking noise comes from the power steering pump.
The rumbling from the pump suggests a replacement is required.
I found a second hand unit in Slovenia, None in UK, not even from Renault, luckily, only £40 posted. Been told it came off a low mileage car, (here's hoping)!
I have the PDF copy of the maintenance- workshop manual, but cannot find any reference to the Nissan variant power pump replacement sequence. A mechanic friend has told me, it is a drivers wheel off, inner wheel arch off, brake disc, suspension and hub off and withdraw the driveshaft! Is this right? Seems a lot of work, just to replace the pump.
Interesting, the fault code finder reads, "Sensor fault on steering rack", I guess this may be linked to the low pressure of the pump output.
When the revs pick up, the steering is normal, only at slow speed, usually from a parked position, it is very heavy. Anyone had experience of this issue?
Might be old power steering fluid in there Trev i dont know if you've replaced it recently? I had it on one of mine but caught it early enough and flushed the fluid all out and it went silent.
I had the squealing from one of my 3.5 models. I simply changed the belt. Got the garage to fit it for a tenner. Took ten minutes
