Hi guys. I have a beautiful 2004 intiale 3.0d auto. Occansionly after driving when you turn car off then start again, I,e filling with fuel, gearbox message comes up stating gearbox faulty turn engine off then on again and it will operate normally. Its very intermittent and has happened a couple of times whilst driving. Again pull over and restart and it's fine. I have had it into an independent and they cannot get their diagnostic tool to talk to the car. Also today it has decided to start to be hesitant when accelerating and this engine is misfiring. Took it to another independent and their machine will not communicate to the car. Any help would be grateful. Many thanks Paul

Sorry yes thats the bit I thought you were talking about
The part looks like this and sits on top of the gearbox. On the 3.0 diesel its below the battery box tray.
Hi Paul
Does it show the picture on the small screen of a gear selector moving back and forth? Does it feel like its slipping in gears and have no acceleration? Because if it is then its the PNP on top of the gearbox that has failed. You need to find a working used one somewhere or buy new (if they're still available). What happens is the contactors fail over time and it essentially loses electrical signal as to what gear the auto box is in. I had to do this on one of mine.
Also, are you saying you have two separate issues , i.e the gearbox and the misfire? or is the misfire/hesitation because of the gearbox?
