I have read that this fluid needs changing, despite being a sealed gearbox from Renault. My motor has done 98k miles now and the history is not complete.
How much fluid, type and is there a hidden dipstick somewhere?
Cannot find any procedure in the manual, can any one help out here please?
Thanks Trev
BB, thanks for that, comforting to know.
I’ve run 3.5 Vel Satis cars since 2002. I’ve changed the ATF numerous times and never have I had to have anything reset in terms of the electronics. Just make sure the level is spot on. Take time to get it right.
No not yet
i have the oil but am waiting to do rear shocks etc at same time it is up on the ramp.
i did find a link to show how to re learn the electronics and settings in the gearbox. Send me your e mail and I will pass it on. Same box used in Volvos and others
How did you get on Trev, did you change the oil?
Bloody electronics again! Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
There is a very small dipstick at the front of the gearbox, you will need to access that to check the level is bang on.
The other thing to note is that on these gearboxes you cant just change the oil without altering the programming. You need someone with renault clip to tell the gearbox its received new oil. That way it adapts correctly. This is the mistake I made with one of mine and now it has a ridiculous time delay before going in to Drive.
As for the process, that is right, the best advice i can say is to flush it 2-3 times as a lot of oil will stay in the torque converter when you drain.
Found some info on the Reault club site.
7.6 Litres of Toyota 1V oil (japanese Aisin Warner gearbox). OR Mobil/Esso JWS3309.
Apparently drain as much as you can and refill and run a hundred miles and refill and repeat. Seems a bit hit and miss but the is the only way of doing it apparently.
Oil costs around £50 from Mannol oils for 10 Litres.
